Dramatic moment man clambers out of crumpled wreck getaway car after rolling it in Hyde Park

A dramatic video captured the moment a car attempting to escape from police crashed and overturned in Leeds.

An occupant of the red car can be seen clambering out of the crumpled vehicle and sprinting away, before pursuing officers give chase on foot.

The CCTV footage was shot in Hyde Park at the corner of Victoria Road and Norwood Road on Sunday evening.

In the video, a red car emerges onto Norwood Road at speed and angles to shoot straight across Victoria Road to Manor Drive.

But as it flies across Victoria Road an unsighted car clips its right side, sending it flipping onto its roof and rolling across the street.

The mangled wreckage takes out a traffic sign before coming to a stop on Manor Road.

It is then, three unmarked cars with blue lights flashing slam on the brakes in front of the crash scene.

Men dressed in plain clothes scramble out of the cars and head to the red car, which has come to a rest on its side.

One officer slips just as a man in a light blue shirt clambers out of the window of the red car, jumps down and sprints up Manor Drive. Several officers then give chase.

Police closed Victoria Road on Sunday evening while the crash scene was cleared.

West Yorkshire Police has been contacted for more information.
