Dramatic moment Land Rover pulled from water off Southport Beach

Dramatic footage shows the moment a Land Rover had to be pulled off Southport Beach.

At around 12.30pm on Sunday (May 30), lifeboat crews and the coastguard were alerted to a Land Rover Discovery, which had broken down on the tideline, about one mile off Weld Road in Southport.

By the time the crew arrived, the car was surrounded by water.

A post on Southport Lifeboat's Facebook page reads: "Following a 999 call regarding a Land Rover Discovery that had broken down on the tideline, our assistance was requested.

"The casualty was located approximately one mile off Weld Road, Southport. Our crew headed out in the Muir Hill tractor.

"Because the tide was flooding on a spring tidal range, by the time our crew arrived the vehicle was surrounded by water.

"Having ensured all occupants were safe, we attached a tow lie to the Discovery and towed the vehicle to safety to await recovery."

Southport Offshore Rescue Trust is an independent charity that provides a 24-hour lifesaving service around the Southport coast.

Independent of the RNLI, the Trust relies on donations and fundraising to support itself to provide a first class life saving service in an area of coast and water covering between the River Mersey and the River Ribble, and up to 25 miles offshore, including Southport Marine Lake.

Volunteer crews give up their time and comfort to carry out rescues in difficult and often dangerous conditions.
