Dramatic moment casino worker caught on CCTV stealing £10,000 arrested by police

This is the moment police arrest a crooked casino worker who “thought cameras weren’t watching” her at work over a £10,000 theft.

Juliana Quintero Velasco, 24, is seen on CCTV sneakily removing bank notes from a register drawer at Genting Casino Stratford in Westfield.

Velasco checks if any colleagues are watching as she then uses paperwork to cover the money before suddenly getting up from her desk.

The cashier taps her staff pass to exit a security door and walks out of the office.

But Velasco was oblivious to her every move being recorded by cameras, even as she leaves work early with a black jacket over her arm.

The Metropolitan Police were informed and received intelligence the thief planned to leave the county.

Born-worn footage shows how officers moved swiftly to detain her at home in Anne Street, Plaistow, on June 14.

In a post on its Facebook page, the force said: “How not to steal from your employer.

“She thought the cameras weren’t watching, but justice had other plans.

“Officers acted swiftly and arrested a casino employee who was caught on CCTV stealing £10,000. Less than 24 hours later, she was in cuffs.

“This is proactive policing in action.”

At Thames Magistrates’ Court on June 30, Velasco pleaded guilty to theft by employee.

A force spokeswoman said: “She was sentenced to complete 120 hours of unpaid work and ordered to pay £1,200 in compensation to the victim.”

Genting Casinos, formerly Aspers, boasts its east London venue has the “largest casino floor in the UK” offering over 150 slot machines, live table games including roulette and blackjack, plus Britain’s biggest poker room.

A spokesperson said: “We always treat employee matters as private, and we would therefore not discuss any individual or circumstance.

“Where crimes are committed however, we would always seek to deal with those matters firmly and in line with our policies and procedures as well as in full cooperation with the police and the relevant authorities.

“We would also like to pay tribute to our national surveillance team who monitor our businesses across the country and help keep our business and customers safe.”

The Gambling Commission said Velasco’s licence is suspended.
