Dramatic moment car is lifted from bottom of Forth and Clyde Canal in Falkirk

This is the dramatic moment a car was pulled from the Forth and Clyde Canal in Falkirk yesterday.

There was a massive emergency response after reports of a vehicle in the water at Lock 16 in Camelon.

It’s understood someone who had been swimming in the canal discovered the motor shortly after 4pm on Wednesday July, 21.

A small crane was used to recover the car (Supplied)

The area, close to former boozer The Union Inn, was sealed off to members of the public for a number of hours while a probe was launched.

Rescue teams used a boat to search the water.

Pictures from the scene showed scores of mercy crews in the area, including police divers.

The car was later recovered, and officers have confirmed that nobody was inside it.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the bizarre incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We received a report of a car in the water at Lock 16 in Camelon around 1.40pm on Wednesday, 21 July.

"Officers and emergency services partners carried out a search of the vehicle in the water and the surrounding area with no trace of anyone.

"The vehicle has been recovered from the water."
