Dramatic video shows warehouse blaze being tackled by 125 firefighters

Dramatic footage shows the ferocious and destructive scale of a fire at a huge warehouse in east London this evening.

Thick black smoke can be seen pouring from the roof of the Saimaxx builder's merchant on Alfreds Way Industrial Estate in Barking.

London Fire Brigade first received reports of the blaze just after 6.30pm and at least 125 firefighters raced to the scene, along with 20 fire engines, My London reports.

The blaze has continued to rage for more than two hours with residents being warned to keep their windows and doors shut to avoid the smoke entering their homes.

London Ambulance Service tweeted: "If you live near to this area please keep your windows and doors shut as it is causing a large amount of smoke."

The footage, taken from the car park of the vast industrial estate shows firecrew tackling attempting the inferno while smoke continues to rise from the warehouse.

More engines are seen arriving, while red-hot flames burst through the roof of the warehouse.

Police are at the scene to help the Fire Brigade keep the area clear.

The blaze has resulted in the closure of neighbouring roads and the Lodge Avenue Roundabout, which connects the A13 Alfreds Way with the industrial estate just to its south.

Residents are warned to be their windows and doors closed (PA)

The fire is also close to the Barking to Romford Dock section of the c2c rail line connecting Essex and East London with the centre of London.

All c2c trains towards Southend have been suspended and replacement bus services are running.

A London Fire Brigade statement said: "Twenty fire engines and around 125 firefighters are currently tackling a fire at a warehouse on Alfreds Way in Barking.

"Part of a single storey warehouse is alight.

"The Brigade was called at 6.33pm. Fire crews from Barking, East Ham, Dagenham, Plaistow, Ilford and surrounding fire stations are at the scene

"The cause of the fire is not known at this stage."
