Dramatic footage shows police in 75mph high-speed pursuit of dangerous driver

Dramatic bodycam footage has captured the moment a dangerous driver rammed into a police car after he failed to stop during a high-speed pursuit.

Nottinghamshire Police followed Graham Ryder in his black Ford Focus after he was seen driving at speed and hitting the wing mirror of a car in Main Street, Bulwell.

Officers put on their blue lights calling for Ryder to stop, but instead he drove away at speeds of more than 75 miles per hour - driving on the wrong side of the road.

He also jumped red traffic lights and roadworks before finally crashing into a stone bollard on Hoewood Road - leaving him with a broken wrist, fractured rib and a fractured vertebrae in his spine.

Ryder, 48, of Strelley Street in Bulwell, was charged with dangerous driving and criminal damage following the incident on January 20 and pleaded guilty earlier this year.

Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court on Wednesday (August 26) he was jailed for 18 months, suspended for two years.

He has also been banned from the roads and must take a re-test when the ban expires.

Police Constable Kyle Hackett, who ran the investigation, said: "Ryder took the law into his own hands when he drove in such a dangerous manner and held no regard for the safety of other road users or pedestrians.

"He could very easily have killed someone or himself the way he was driving. Thankfully, he didn’t.

"I'd like to thank my colleagues on patrol who acted bravely in order to pursue and apprehend Ryder.

"We won't tolerate dangerous driving in Nottinghamshire and we will do everything we can to bring offenders before the courts."
