Dramatic footage shows Michael Conlan's heartbreaking reaction to Belfast defeat

Dramatic unseen footage has been released which shows Michael Conlan's immediate reaction after being beaten by Luis Alberto Lopez last Saturday.

Conlan was stopped in the fifth round by Lopez who retained his IBF Featherweight World Title in front of the Irish Olympian's hometown of Belfast.

A crushing right hand from the Mexican sent Conlan crashing to the canvas, with Conlan's team throwing in the towel to spare their man from any more harm.

An eerie silence fell over the SSE Arena after the towel was thrown in, and once the dust had settled, Lopez was announced as the winner and still champion of the World.

New unseen footage has been released by TopRank boxing, which shows Michael being consoled by his brother Jamie in the ring after the fight.

"It was a f*****g firefight, You won the first two and he won the last two," said Jamie as Michael replied "Ah, Okay.

"You just fought the wrong fight. It's ok Mick."

Michael can be heard telling his brother "I'm devastated," before Lopez was announced as the victor.

Saturday was the second World title defeat for Conlan in the space of 18 months after a heartbreaking loss to Leigh Wood last March.
