River Kelvin flooding: Dramatic footage shows Glasgow waters swell during heavy rainfall

Dramatic footage has appeared online of a swollen River Kelvin in Glasgow's west end due to today's heavy and persistent rains.

The video, which was taken in the Yorkhill area, shows the river level at around 1.8 metres and climbing as a result of the rainfall which has battered the city since this morning almost non-stop.

And it comes amid a forecast for further rain in the city this evening and as the Glazert Water tributary to the Kelvin near Milton of Campsie nears its highest level ever recorded.

A weather warning is in place in the city for rain and Glasgow is on flood alert, with downpours forecast for the remainder of this evening.

The yellow Met Office weather warning was in place from 6am this morning and will remain so until 23.59pm this evening.

The disruption comes after the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) advised the public to be braced for potential flooding across West Central Scotland.

And the bad weather has also caused widespread problems across Glasgow's road and rail network, with delays of over an hour on the A82 at Dunglass Roundabout heading to and from Dumbarton.

While ScotRail have also advised rail passengers to avoid travelling on some routes if they can due to the severity of disruption caused by flooding on some lines.
