This is the incredible but terrifying scene after a huge Scots fire broke out near the A9.
Shocked witnesses watched on as the blaze broke out out in Portgower in Sutherland, with police called to the scene around 12.30pm yesterday afternoon.
Dramatic footage showed giant black smoke clouds fill the sky as flames ripped through bushes.
The blaze, believed to be a wildfire, has now left 'lingering reek of burning' in the Highland village.
It is not known at this time if anyone body has been injured due to the fire.
One local said: "Quite an amazing sight so close to the A9.
"I had taken the pictures when I was on out on a break from work.
"So a bit of an unusual sight."
A second person said: "It was out when I came back at 8pm but it’s left a lingering reek of burning."
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police received a call around 12:30pm yesterday to a report of a fire in Portgower Village Road.
"Officers assisted with traffic management."
Scottish Fire and Rescue has been also contacted for comment.
