Dramatic end for 'robber in getaway car' chased by Leeds police

A police chase came to a dramatic end when officers 'stung' the getaway car believed to be stolen in a robbery.

Officers from West Yorkshire Police's Roads Policing Unit spotted the black Renault Clio in Leeds last night (Tuesday) after it had been stolen earlier in the evening.

They followed the car and managed to lay down a stinger in the road, which stopped the driver in his tracks.

The officers arrested him at the scene and he has since been taken into police custody for questioning.

A tweet from the force's Roads Policing Unit account said: "Vehicle stolen today in a robbery.

"Vehicle sighted by officers in Leeds, stinger deployed, vehicle stopped, 1 male in custody."

Earlier this year, West Yorkshire Police revealed that Audis, Volkswagens and BMWs are the cars most likely to be stolen across the county.

Between December 2016 and December 2019, 667 Volkswagens were taken in residential burglaries, followed by 636 Audis and 407 BMWs.
