Dramatic drone footage of huge fire at Liverpool docks being tackled by firefighters

Incredible drone footage shows firefighters tackling a huge wood fire at Liverpool docks.

The blaze broke out on a yard on Regent Road in Vauxhall at around 11.30am on Tuesday morning.

Four fire crews were sent to the site where a was well alight and smoke was beginning to billow across the city.

At the time, a spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue said: "Firefighters are currently in attendance at a fire at a wood yard on Regent Road in Vauxhall.

"Crews were alerted at 11.35am and on scene at 11.45am. Four fire engines are currently in attendance.

"On arrival crews found a stack of pallets, approximately 80 square metres, involved in fire.

"Crews are currently using compressed air foam and three main jets to tackle the fire.

"Businesses and residents in the local area are advised to keep their windows and doors closed."

In the footage, captured by Wayne Higgot, firefighters can be seen tackling the blaze from all sides as thick smoke spreads over the area.

This afternoon, Mersey Fire issued an update that the fire had been sectorised.

A spokesperson said: "Fire crews remain at the scene of a fire at a wood yard on Regent Road, Vauxhall.

"The fire has been sectorised.

"Onsite staff, under the guidance of the fire service, have now secured a fire break by moving unaffected pallets away from those involved in the fire. The site manager has arranged for a digger to attend to dig out material involved in the fire.

"A large plume of smoke continues to blow from the site in a south to south westerly direction.

"Please avoid the area and previous advice to keep windows & doors closed should still be followed.

"Three main branches are in use as well as a ground monitor."

Travel site INRIX has warned drivers of the smoke in the area. They said: "Woodyard fire on A5036 Regent Road in both directions at Walter Street.

"Approach with care. Smoke is blowing across the road due to a woodyard fire near Nelson Dock."

Anyone with existing medical conditions should keep medicine close by and if ill effects occur, please call NHS 111.
