Dramatic crash closes main road through town as car left smashed on pavement

Five people have been injured after a crash between two vehicles resulted in one car colliding with a telecommunications box in Ashton .

Fire crews were called to Oldham Road shortly before 5pm on Sunday afternoon to reports of a collision.

It is believed that two cars collided with each other, causing one to crash into a Telecomms box before veering off onto the nearby pavement.

Five casualties were treated by paramedics at the scene.

Their injuries are not thought to be serious.

Resident, Jenny Lloyd, said she heard a loud bang before seeing the car arrive on the pavement.

Speaking to the M.E.N , she said: "I'm shocked this has happened right next door to us.

"A guy we know always stands at that metal box and I think people have been really lucky.

"We are in and out of that shop a lot, anyone could have been hurt in the process."

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire Service said: "We were called at 16.56 to a road traffic collision between two cars with one car colliding with a telecommunications box.

"Five casualties are being assisted by North West Ambulance Service with minor injuries.

"No casualties have been taken to hospital."
