Dramatic coastguard rescue after paramotor crashes on the beach

A dramatic rescue was carried out by the coastguard team after a paramotor crashed down onto the beach.

The Wirral Coastguard Rescue Team were called shortly after 7pm to the beach, close to West Kirby Sailing Club.

Witnesses reported that a paramotor had come crashing down onto the beach and that a man was injured and being cut off by the tide about a mile from the sailing club.

When they arrived, Coastguard Rescue Officers got the exact location of the pilot from witnesses.

It was not clear how badly injured the man was and due to the flooding tide, two specially trained Coastguard Mud Rescue technicians quickly deployed wearing full mud rescue protective equipment.

Given the distance from the shore, the assistance of Hoylake Hovercraft was requested.

The two Mud Rescue Technicians reached the man who wasn't injured and able to walk.

Michael Buratti, Station Officer for Wirral Coastguard Rescue Team said, “On this occasion, the paramotor pilot has had a lucky escape and has managed to carry out a controlled emergency landing on the beach and walked away uninjured however landing onto mud with an incoming time made the incident time critical.

"Accurate information given by the 999 caller enabled Wirral Coastguard Rescue Team to quickly deploy specially trained officers onto the mud.

"Given the distance from the shore, we also called upon the assistance of the RNLI Hovercraft from Hoylake”.
