Dramatic arrest made after man allegedly rams police cars in Devonport

A 23-year-old Burnie man is in custody after he allegedly drove his car into two police vehicles at a car park in Devonport.

According to a Tasmania Police Facebook post, police had been seeking to arrest the man for some time.

A video of the incident recorded by a bystander showed two officers attempting to extract the man from his car.

The man attempted to flee on foot but was tackled to the ground by police.

Two officers received minor injuries during the incident.

"The two police cars were extensively damaged during the incident, as was a vehicle owned by a member of the public," the Tasmania Police post reads.

"The man in custody is believed to have received facial injuries and an injury to his arm during the incident.

"Four children in the man's vehicle are receiving medical attention as a precaution as a result of the incident in which the man drove his vehicle into several vehicles including two police cars."
