Drama in Swansea city centre as police block off street and swoop on suspect

Traffic was brought to a standstill in a main Swansea street as police swooped on a suspect.

Police vans and cars blocked both sides of High Street between 1pm and 1.30pm this afternoon after rushing to the scene.

Buses and cars were stopped as a man was arrested by officers in connection with the incident.

Three police vehicles headed up the road up past the city's train station and two others blocked the road from the other side.

Shocked onlookers could only stop and stare at the scene, which unfolded in front of them.

A South Wales Police spokesman said: "Shortly before 1pm today police in Swansea were called to an incident in Swansea High Street."

They said a man was suspected of damaging a car.

"A 29 year-old man from Waun Wen was subsequently arrested on suspicion of  affray.

"He has been taken to Swansea police station."
