Drama in Harehills as man scales roof and police in Leeds forced to shut road

Police were forced to close a road in Harehills this morning following concern for the safety of a man on a roof.

West Yorkshire Police were called around 8.42am after reports of the man on top of a building in Harehills Lane.

The road was closed briefly while they dealt with the matter meaning traffic had to be diverted while the incident was being dealt with.

The road opened shortly after around 9am as the "matter was brought to a safe close."

The force’s spokesperson said: “Police were called at around 8.42am to reports of a concern for safety of a man on the roof of a building in Harehills Lane, Leeds.

“The road was closed while the incident was dealt with and the matter was brought to a safe close at 9.03am.”
