Drake to play 'untraditional' Las Vegas residency after UK Assassination Vacation tour

Drake will perform a string of shows in Las Vegas in a residency that will begin this year and continue into 2020.

The Toronto artist teamed up with Wynn Las Vegas for the shows that will see him perform at the XS Nightclub, which has a modest (for Drake) capacity of 4,800.

The "Nice for What" star had teased at a deal but not released any extensive details. However, Rolling Stone has since confirmed the residency and spoken with Alex Cordova, executive vice president and managing partner for XS Nightclub.

"In the fourth quarter of last year, we pursued a relationship with Drake and his management team to do something different in Las Vegas – not the traditional residency," he said. "A partnership will be the right word because this isn't just about performing at the venue. This is more about how we bring Drake into the concept of Wynn Las Vegas.

"We're looking at all possible environments within the hotel and working with Drake and Drake's team to see exactly how he can lend assistance in curating these experiences."

Drake is fresh off his win for Best Rap Song for his track "God's Plan" from the album ScorpionHe made a rare appearance at the awards ceremony, only to be cut off after he spoke about not needing award as proof of success.

"We play in an opinion-based sport," he began. "This is a business when it's up to a bunch of people who might not understand what a mixed race kid in the suburbs has to say... You've already won if you have people singing word for word your song... if there's people with regular jobs who are coming out in the rain and the snow to buy tickets to your show... you don't need this right here."

Drake is touring the UK in March and April as part of his Assassination Vacation tour, which includes a staggering seven nights at the O2 Arena in London.
