Drake's new house mocked after Architectural Digest feature: 'Nicest Las Vegas hotel I've ever seen'

Drake's new mansion has sparked memes on social media

With celebrities social distancing at home much like the rest of the world as the coronavirus pandemic continues, Drake has taken the opportunity to show off his new mansion.

This week, the 33-year-old Toronto native revealed the inside of his new home, which he’s dubbed The Embassy, with Architectural Digest.

According to the magazine, the 50,000sq-ft mansion boasts an NBA regulation-sized basketball court, a two-storey closet with room for Drake’s collection of Birkin bags, and a “world-class” recording studio.

In Drake’s master bedroom, the luxury continues with a bed headboard that “encompasses a whiskey-and-champagne bar on the reverse side” and a 4,000-pound tub of “faceted black marble carved from a single block”.

“It’s overwhelming high luxury,” the Toosie Slide singer told the magazine. “That message is delivered through the size of the rooms and the materials and details of the floors and the ceilings. I wanted to make sure people can see the work I’ve put in over the years reflected from every vantage point.”

But despite the undeniable opulence of the rapper’s new home, the photos have been met with reactions ranging from humour to confusion.

On social media, where the rapper also shared pictures of his new abode, people have compared it to everything from a hotel to a mall.

“Every room in Drake's house looks like he lives in the third best hotel in Qatar,” one person tweeted.

Another said: “So Drake owns a mall and he calls it a house.”

“Drake's house looks like the type of place that overcharges you for a bottle of Tito's Vodka before they let you in,” someone else tweeted, comparing the house to a club.

Others were simply overwhelmed by the house’s over-the-top aesthetic, although many suggested it fit Drake’s style well.

“Drake’s house looks just like him. Unnecessarily extra,” one person tweeted.
