If you are looking to max out your builds in DragonSword: Awakening, picking the right set of runes for your heroes is a necessity.

The game, however, doesn’t do a great job of explaining what each type provides before you acquire them. Here’s what each rune does in DragonSword: Awakening, how to unlock them, and which you should prioritize.

All runes in DragonSword Awakening, explained

Acquirable as raid rewards, DragonSword: Awakening allows you to get five different types of runes, each offering an extra boost to a preselected stat. They are available in five rarities: Damaged, Intact, Refined, Radiant, and Perfect. You can check out an overview of what each rune type offers below:

  • Resolve : Offers a flat ATK boost
  • Guardian : Offers boosts to flat DEF
  • Vitality : Offers boosts to Max HP
  • Concentration : Offers boosts to Critical Hit Chance (CRIT Rate)
  • Amplification : Offers boosts to Critical DMG

Apart from their rarity, RNG also plays a huge role in a rune’s power, so don’t be surprised if you end up getting an Intact offering similar effects to your damaged variants.

What are the best runes in DragonSword Awakening

Resolve and Amplification are widely considered to be the best runes in DragonSword Awakening. Boosting your ATK stat is a must for any early and end-game build, while getting extra Critical DMG can allow you to reach that 150%+ threshold without compromises.

How to add and remove runes

After acquiring your first runes, you can equip them to any 4-star or better equipment piece by unlocking its slot. To do that, either click on the locked rune slot when examining your gear, or press Triangle/Y while in the equipment screen.

Each slot unlock requires one Anonymous Artisan’s Crafting Tool, acquirable via Raids, the story, by completing the Ashen Ruins dungeon, or for 100 Adventurer’s Emblems at the Exchange shop. It is also possible to replace or remove runes at will by expending 10,000 gold after selecting them. This won’t destroy your runes or demand extra Crafting Tools.

Now that you know everything about the rune system, make sure to also check out the best builds and teams for all characters in DragonSword: Awakening.
