Dragons set to sign fly-half from French giants Clermont

The Dragons look set to sign former Munster outside-half JJ Hanrahan from French giants Clermont Auvergne for next season.

It’s being reported in Ireland that the experienced 29-year-old, who can also cover centre and full-back, will be joining on a three-year deal.

And contacts here in Wales have confirmed he has been on the Dragons radar.

A former World U20s player of the year nominee in 2012, the Kerry product had two spells with Munster, either side of a stint at Northampton.

In all, he made more than 140 appearances for the Irish province, scoring 735 points.

Capped five times by Emerging Ireland, he linked up with Clermont last year and has had 11 outings for them.

Now he looks set to embark on a new chapter of his career at Rodney Parade, providing another seasoned option at fly-half alongside Sam Davies, while being able to slot in to the centre if needed, as well.

The Dragons have also been linked with new Wales hooker Bradley Roberts, who made his Test debut against the land of his birth South Africa in November.

Roberts, who qualifies through a grandparent, will have to join a region from UIster at the end of this season if he wants to continue playing international rugby.

The Dragons are understood to be the favourites to snap up the 26-year-old.

They have also been linked with Exeter back-five forward Sean Lonsdale and Bath centre Max Clark, who are both Welsh qualified.
