Dragons lose skipper Hunt to broken arm

Ben Hunt will miss a month of football for the Dragons after breaking his arm against Souths. (AAP)

St George Illawarra have suffered a major setback in their NRL finals push with captain Ben Hunt to be sidelined for at least a month.

The Queensland State of Origin player fractured an arm during Sunday's 50-14 loss to South Sydney at Suncorp Stadium.

Hunt won't need surgery but the Dragons said on Monday he'll miss at least the next month of action.

It leaves the seventh-placed Dragons searching for a new halfback and captain heading into next weekend's crucial clash with Canberra.

The 31-year-old has been in good form after his man-of-the-match display in Queensland's Origin III win at CBUS Super Stadium last month.

The Dragons may lose Hunt but are expected to get Josh McGuire, Jack Bird, Jack De Belin and Blake Lawrie back from suspension against the Raiders while Daniel Alvaro and Zac Lomax are also available after serving their bans for breaching COVID protocols.
