Drag Race winner refuses to perform on X Factor with Chase star Jenny Ryan after pay row

Ru Paul's Drag Race winner The Vivienne refused to appear on the X Factor saying "drag queens are artists who need paying".

Liverpool's queen, who recently took the crown in the BBC's first series of Drag Race , was asked to appear on the show alongside fellow queen Baga Chipz.

But she 'politely declined' to perform and claimed the X Factor would not pay any drag artists appearing on the show.

Megan McKenna won the X Factor's first celebrity series after wowing viewers with her cover of It Must Have Been Love by Roxette.

In a series of tweets shared on Saturday, November 30, The Vivienne said: "Was so honoured to be asked to perform on the X Factor this evening. However I decided not to. Until they realise that drag queens are artists who also need paying, I'll politely decline.

"Everybody else will be getting paid apart from the drag queens? Not acceptable."

She added: "I hope [Baga Chipz] has a great time! You're gonna kill it! And Jenny Ryan for the win! [Baga Chipz] was kind enough to invite me to perform with her. But I believe artists should be paid. Especially by HUGE companies."

The Vivienne then tweeted saying: "EXPOSURE DOESN'T PAY THE BILLS! Nine weeks of BBC versus three minutes on ITV. Drag [Race] had TRIPLE the viewing figures of X Factor. FACT. Wigs, costumes, shoes, make up IS NOT FREE."

Baga Chipz, who came third in the hit BBC show, explained why she chose to appear in the final anyway, tweeting: "I'm doing it to support my mate Jenny."

But The Vivienne's Twitter take down won a lot of support on social media, with fans backing her decision not to appear out of principle.

Fellow drag queen Cheryl Hole tweeted to say: "Say it louder for the people still not listening at the back!"

Stephen Hogan tweeted saying: "Hey guys I'm just checking with my landlord to see if they take EXPOSURE."

Crimson Clovers said: "We feel you. Regardless, you don't have to explain yourself to anyone. Drag is EXPENSIVE, your talent is WORTHY and your time is PRECIOUS."

But just as the Twitter thread began to go viral, Baga appeared to be informed that she was in fact being paid for her performance.

She tweeted: "It was my mistake I’ve just had to sign a form.. girl's been paid", adding laughing emojis.

But The Vivienne shared a Mirror Online article about Baga's alleged payment saying: "How convenient. Not until I called them out did it suddenly become 'a mistake'. We were BOTH told on the same phone call it was unpaid. I call b******."

The X Factor were approached for comment.
