Draft Wire: Texans had 2nd-worst class in 2019 NFL draft

The Houston Texans made some puzzling picks in the 2019 NFL draft, and it is going to cost them in the Draft Wire’s ultimate rankings.

According to Draft Wire managing editor and resident draft expert, Luke Easterling, the Texans had the second-worst draft. Only the New York Giants had a worse draft, which is kind of impressive considering they had three picks in Round 1.

While Brian Gaine may have been with the Texans from 2014-16 and there is a degree of familiarity as he was in the personnel ranks, the reality is everyone is getting a chance to see what Gaine is like as general manager calling the shots. 2018 wasn’t really a fair shake given his first pick was in the third round. In 2019 with a relatively full complement of picks, Houston made some head-scratching choices.

The glimmer of optimism is this is just the draft. Players picked to be successful sometimes aren’t, and players written off as busts or reaches turn out to be pleasant surprises. Until the pads come on, good or bad, it’s all speculation.
