Draft Wire’s updated 4-round mock now has Seahawks selecting tackle

Analyst Luke Easterling of Draft Wire originally had the Seattle Seahawks selecting Alabama safety Deionte Thompson with the No. 21 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

“The reign of the ‘Legion of Boom’ has ended, but that doesn’t mean the Seahawks can’t reload and try to build the next version,” Easterling argued. “That starts with finding a rangy, athletic and physical playmaker at safety to replace Earl Thomas, and Thompson has all the traits to make it happen.”

But in his latest updated 4-round mock, Easterling now has Seattle opting for an offensive tackle in the first round, projecting Ole Miss’ Greg Little to the Seahawks.

“Just because Russell Wilson can scramble for his life and still make incredible plays doesn’t mean the Seahawks should keep making him do it,” Easterling writes. “In a tackle class this deep, Seattle should have every intention of spending their first-round pick on a franchise left tackle who can help keep Russell from fleeing the pocket to bail his offense out every other snap.”

The Seahawks have a number of needs this offseason and only four selections in Aprils’ draft for now. General manager John Schneider and coach Pete Carroll will likely find a way to collect more picks but none will be more important than their first – regardless of in which round that comes.
