You might think that people would stop making mock drafts until next offseason because the 2020 NFL Draft is over. It’s a good thing mock season is every season.
Our friends at Draft Wire compiled a two-round mock draft for 2021. Sure, there are needs for Minnesota right now that the team might not have next draft. There are also position groups that appear fine, which might not be come 2021.
It’s hard to predict with 100% certainty who the Vikings will take next draft. That said, doing mock drafts for 2021 is beneficial to see which college players the Vikings could possibly take, so fans can watch those players during the college football season.
Here’s who the outlet had the Vikings taking:
First Round: Creed Humphrey | OL | Oklahoma
With the 20th pick in the first round, the Vikings took Humphrey, a center out of Oklahoma.
Drafting Humphrey would mean that center Garrett Bradbury probably had a rocky 2020. There’s also the possibility that the Vikings could move Bradbury to guard, and let go of Pat Elflein.
Humphrey was one of three finalists for the Rimington Trophy, an award for the nation’s best center. If he has a good year for Oklahoma, and the Vikings still have a need on the interior of the offensive line, there’s a chance they could take him.
Second Round: Aidan Hutchinson | EDGE | Michigan
Draft Wire must not think Ifeadi Odenigbo will be good enough in an increased role.
That’s what would likely have to happen for the Vikings to draft a defensive end in the second round of the draft.
Hutchinson, who the Vikings took at pick No. 52 in this mock draft, had 10 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks for the Wolverines this past season. If he puts up similar stats, and performs well in the NFL Combine, I could see a team taking him high in the draft.
