Draft Wire has Seahawks selecting cornerback in 2020 mock draft

It’s never too early to start looking at which players the Seattle Seahawks could covet in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Draft Wire’s Luke Easterling put together a first-round mock draft for 2020, and with the 16th pick (which was determined by the latest Super Bowl odds) he had the Seahawks selecting Virginia cornerback Bryce Hall.

Hall surprised a lot of people by not declaring for the draft following his extremely impressive junior season. Hall was projected to be a first round pick by many after he lead the entire NCAA with 21 passes defended, also totaling 39 solo tackles, two interceptions, two sacks and two forced fumbles.

Assuming he stays healthy and is similarly productive again next year, Hall has the makings of a first round draft pick, and one that Seattle could covet to line up on the outside.

Cornerback is one of the few positions the Seahawks did not address during the 2019 NFL draft, choosing instead to rely on Tre Flowers and Shaquill Griffin to start at those spots. How those two perform in 2019 will be a big factor in whether the Seahawks choose to use an early round pick on a cornerback in 2020, something they have been hesitant to do in the past.

While Hall certainly fits Seattle’s mold as a lanky, long-ranged cornerback, the Seahawks almost always wait until the third round or later to snag corners, choosing instead to develop players like Richard Sherman, Byron Maxwell, Flowers and Griffin.

The 2020 draft is a long ways away, but there is reason to believe that a corner will be on coach Pete Carroll’s checklist when the time rolls around – although grabbing one with an early pick would be a surprise, based on the team’s history.
