Draft Wire 2020 mock has Seahawks selecting edge defender

The Seattle Seahawks are still two weeks away from the start of the 2019 season, but already 2020 mock drafts are out in full force, making projections about who the team will select next April.

The latest from Draft Wire has the Seahawks selecting at No. 17 overall and using that pick to take Michigan State defensive end Kenny Willekes.

Willekes, the Big Ten Defensive Lineman of the Year in 2018, would give Seattle another young weapon in the pass rush alongside L.J. Collier, who they selected in the first round this year.

From Draft Wire’s mock draft write-up:

He has solid acceleration off the snap, notable hip flexibility when turning the corner, and very good hand usage. He plays with impressive pad level and has good anchor strength in his lower body. His athletic ceiling isn’t sky high, but he’s a reliable pass rusher who has worked his way from being a walk-on to a legitimate NFL prospect.

Collier is battling a preseason injury, and with veteran Ezekiel Ansah yet to return, it is very clear the team needs reinforcements on the defensive line.

A lot can, and will, change between now and draft season, but Willekes would be a good fit on paper for the Seahawks and their pass defense heading into the 2020 season.
