Dracula: BBC and Netflix reveal first look at Claes Bang in new series from Sherlock creators

A first look at Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss’s Dracula has been revealed, showing Danish actor Claes Bang in character as the blood-spattered vampiric Count.

The hotly anticipated BBC and Netflix series from the creators of Sherlock has teased its first image of the sharp-toothed, long-nailed bloodsucker, who appears to have just finished feasting in the sneak peek.

Another shot shows Bang, of The Square and The Bridge fame, looking dapper and slightly more friendly, posing next to a chair in what could be the depths of his castle.

Further casting has also been announced for the series, including Lyndsey Marshal (The League of Gentlemen), Chanel Cresswell (This Is England), Matthew Beard (An Education), Lydia West (Years & Years), Paul Brennen (Happy Valley), Sarah Niles (Catastrophe), Sofia Oxenham (Poldark), John McCrea (God’s Own Country), Phil Dunster (Humans) and newcomer Millicent Wong.

The previously announced cast of the latest reinvention of Bram Stoker’s classic tale includes John Heffernan (The Crown), Joanna Scanlan (No Offence), Dolly Wells (Can You Ever Forgive Me), Sacha Dhawan (Line of Duty), Jonathan Aris (Sherlock), Morfydd Clark (Patrick Melrose) and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett (Misfits).

Moffat and Gatiss’s new series starts off in Transylvania in 1897, where the Count is plotting to travel to Victorian London to hunt down new blood.

Dracula will air on BBC1 and Netflix in Winter 2019
