Draconid meteor shower to light up Dublin skies for two nights

We love a good astronomy event happening over Ireland and this is no expection.

The Draconid meteor shower will be lighting up the skies of Dublin and all of Ireland until October 10.

The Draconids are expected to be visible across northern America, Europe and Asia until Thursday, with around 5 to 20 meteors per hour during its peak.

There will be a second meteor shower the Orionids later this month and that will peak on October 21.

When is the best time to see it?

It will peak at 2am on October 9 so if you're looking to catch a glimpse - hope that the clouds dissapate.

The best option is to head as far away from light pollution as you can, as light from street lights, houses, shops and passing cars will limit what you could see.

Most meteor showers are most active before dawn, but the best time to see the Draconids is in the evening.

What will the weather be like?

According to Met Eireann we can expect mostly clear spells tonight so it's looking like good news.

But we can expect some rain and breezes, which could make for a unique experience.

The forecast reads: "Tonight will be mostly dry with clear spells. There will be a few isolated showers. Still quite breezy with moderate to fresh southwest winds. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 9 degrees."
