Draconid meteor shower peaks over the UK tonight

An annual meteor shower will reach its peak over the UK tonight with shooting stars visible from 6pm.

The Draconid Meteor Shower is putting on a display from October 6 to 11 and tonight, October 8, will be the peak of the show.

Experts say there will be up to five meteors visible each hour through the night, reports The Mirror .

The Draconid Meteor Shower happens when Earth crosses the path of Comet 21P/Giacobini-Zinner.

Debris from the comet collides with the Earth’s upper atmosphere, where it burns up, producing meteors in the night sky.

If you miss the Draconid Meteor Shower, thankfully there’s another shower lined up later this month.

The Orionids Meteor Shower is expected to peak on October 21-22, and will produce up to 20 meteors per hour - making it much easier to see.

The Draconids will be visible across the sky, appearing to originate from the constellation Draco, and the best chance of seeing them may be to turn your back on what could be a bright moon.
