Stargazers in Northumberland were treated to a fantastic view of a meteor shower last night.

The Draconid Meteor Shower is one of two meteor showers that light up UK skies each October.

And this year, a spectacular shot of the shower, named after the constellation of Draco the dragon, was spotted off the Northumberland coast on October 10.

The Draconid meteor shower can be seen across the Northern Hemisphere and comes from the debris of comet 21 P/ Giacobini-Zinner.

Its appearance last night was captured by photographer Owen Humphreys off Howick Beach, near Craster.

The next will be the Orionids, which actually began on October 1 and lasts until November 6.

The Orionids are associated with Comet Halley and will peak on October 21, with a rate of 15 shooting stars per hour.

If you look to the skies to spot them, Royal Museums Greenwich describe them as "fast with fine trains".
