Dr Ranj confirms when pregnant mums' partners would be banned from labour room

Dr Ranj Singh set the record straight about pregnancy birthing partners during coronavirus.

The showbiz personality and doctor, 40, answered burning questions people had on Heart radio in the morning on Wednesday.

He spoke to Amanda Holden and Jamie Theakston while they entertained the nation.

Ranj dispelled pregnant women's fears as they prepare to give birth in unprecedented times.

Women have been voicing their concerns they couldn't have a birthing partner during the birth of their unborn baby.

But the doctor revealed what has really been going on during active labour.

He said: "[You can have] One birthing partner during active labour."

Ranj set out women's birthing partner would not be allowed to be with them before and after the birth because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Strictly Come Dancing star also said the birthing partner would have to be wearing a mask and gloves.

Amanda joked her husband Chris was wearing "all the gear" when she gave birth to her daughters anyway.

But the doctor said someone displaying symptoms of coronavirus would not be allowed into the ward under any circumstances.

Ranj said: "However, [the birthing partner is] a rule that's dependent on when giving birth.
