Yesterday I had my second Covid vaccination!
And I do feel like shouting Hurray. It’ll take up to 21 days for me to develop full immunity but of course I already have substantial immunity from the first injection.
I was determined to be first in line when the vaccine was offered to me which happened fairly quickly because I’m considered extremely vulnerable on account of my age, 83, and my medical conditions which involve my heart, my lungs and my kidneys.
So I had my first vaccination three weeks ago today.
There’s no keener advocate of vaccination in the UK than me.
I believe in the protection it gives us with all my being and I beg anyone who is offered the vaccination to take it up. It’s our best hope.
It’s the only way that we’ll get out of the pandemic and it’s essential that as many people as possible get immunised. To my mind the risks are infinitesimally small when compared to the phenomenal benefits.
Of course my vaccinations are courtesy of our truly amazing scientists who have made an effective and safe vaccine in record time.
Also to the people in charge of logistics distributing the vaccine and the frontline workers who actually injected the vaccine into my arm. I’m inexpressibly grateful.
On the occasion of my first vaccination I became friendly with others who were waiting, some in their 90s, some with Zimmer frames and some in wheelchairs.
I was able to renew my acquaintance with them yesterday. No one in my group would have contemplated refusing the vaccine.
There are no antivaxxers at our age. This is because the alternative to vaccination is possibly dying. That thought concentrates the mind.
As one man of 92 whom I spoke to yesterday said: “I survived the WW2, I survived a serious road accident, I survived my house catching on fire and I’m not going to die of Covid. Bring on the vaccination!”
