Guess who's back: Neurologist Dr Chris Levi will take on a new role as director of the John Hunter Health and Innovation Precinct project.

DOCTOR Chris Levi will return to Newcastle after accepting the role of director of the John Hunter Health and Innovation Precinct.

The neurologist, best known within the Hunter for his extensive work to improve stroke pathways here and across NSW, will bring clinical leadership to the hospital project while building relationships with academic and industry partners.

"I've been given the great, once-in-a-generation opportunity to help establish a flagship precinct," he said.

"During the precinct development phase my role will be to lead the connection of innovation, research and health care improvement, developing and enhancing systems that will bring people together in partnership to establish the precinct as Australia's first learning health system."

He starts in February 2021.
