Dr Hilary warns Trump may not be 'out of woods' as he's heard coughing during interview

Good Morning Britain's Dr Hilary Jones had his say amid confusion over US President Donald Trump's coronavirus battle.

Trump tested positive for Covid-19 last week, before having experimental treatment in hospital.

He now claims to be just fine, addressing the nation and even stating he may attend an upcoming rally.

But during an interview in the US overnight, Trump was heard coughing a few times and clearing his throat.

Amid questions over whether he still has the virus or not, and whether he should be isolating, Dr Hilary advised that the cough may not be a concern.

Speaking on GMB, he revealed that it is often common for someone who has had Covid-19 to cough even when they are no longer infectious.

But he did advise that Trump should be isolating, discussing his apparent breathlessness in recent speeches.

He told hosts Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard: "On the one hand, when you recover from Covid-19 you can have a persistent cough afterwards.

"It's not a reason to continue your self-isolation time, to keep isolating. You can still have a cough but not be infectious to other people.

"He has been a bit breathless in the speeches he's given, he's coughing, there's clearing of the throat.

"It could well be he still has symptoms, it could well be he shouldn't be going to a rally and meeting with lots of people. I think that it's absolutely crazy, he should be self-isolating right now."

He went on: "The treatment he had is experimental...but there is no doubt Covid-19 could cause him more problems going forward.

"Just because he is having treatment, it doesn't mean he is out of the woods.

"I think he's showing a bad example to everyone else, he should be resting and regaining his strength like any patient."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
