Dr Hilary warns of coronavirus spike for the UK in six weeks' time due to covid deniers

Dr Hilary Jones has warned that there will likely be a spike in coronavirus in six weeks' time due to younger people denying that the virus exists.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain today, the doctor addressed the increase in cases after deputy chief medical officer for England Professor Jonathan Van-Tam said the UK let its guard down too much over the summer.

Dr Hilary suggested that many young people believe that they are invulnerable and some don't even believe the virus exists.

He said: "Younger people feel they’re invulnerable, they're not going to be affected by Covid-19 and some of them even deny the virus exists.

"In France, 7,157 cases in the last 24 hours. An exponential rise in the past few weeks and that is now being mirrored by hospitalisations and deaths.

"We are six to eight weeks behind France and Spain, Spain has eight times the number of cases per hundred thousand population and France four times our rate.

"But we’re going to follow suit, we will be there in six to eight unless, as you say, people abide by the guidelines and behave sensibly."

Piers went on to slam England footballers Mason Greenwood and Phil Foden after they were accused of breaking Iceland's strict quarantine rules by inviting women to their hotel room.

He said: "It doesn’t help when you’ve got two England footballers who’ve just made their debut for their country.

"Phil Foden from Manchester City, Mason Greenwood from Man United, they’re both 20 and 18 but they’re Covidiots.

"I saw people all day long trying to defend them and make out, 'Oh, they’re just young lads'. But they’re young lads representing their country who knew the rules and would have had it drummed into them."
