Dr Hilary warns of 'another 100,000 deaths' under government's bungling Covid strategy

Dr Hilary Jones has warned that there could be another 100,000 deaths in the UK due to coronavirus if the government's strategy continues.

This comes after Prime Minister Boris Johnson held a press conference last night as the country passed the grim milestone.

Addressing the news, Piers demanded that there needed to be accountability for what happened.

He said: "There's got to be accountability because the same people who make all of these catastrophic mistakes are still there and are still making catastrophic mistakes!"

Dr Hilary added: "What I was going to say is that this is an emergency still. We have to make sure we don't have another 100,000 deaths - which is quite possible the way we're going forward.

"Perhaps what we should have had was a coalition government at this time like we did during World War II - a coalition government where no one took the blame for making unpopular decisions but were effective in what they said."

Piers earlier suggested that the prime minister should resign over his "shameful" handling of the pandemic.

Introducing Good Morning Britain today alongside co-host Susanna Reid, he said: "What a grim, horrible milestone that was - and that was just the official number, the one that the government was prepared to admit to.

"The actual number of deaths, and excess deaths, due to coronavirus is significantly higher. So this is just what the government is prepared to hold its hands up to.

" Boris Johnson is sorry! He's really sorry that 100,000 people have died."

Susanna interjected: "Well, I don't think we doubt that he's actually sorry. It's absolutely devastating."

Piers pointed out that it was the worst death rate in the world last week over a seven-day average and fifth highest death toll in the world.

"Bear it in mind that those other countries above us - United States of America, Brazil, India. Massively bigger countries. Mexico - and then us," he said. "We are so far ahead of any comparative country it is shameful.

"But the prime minister is sorry, he's really sorry . He bowed his head and said all the right things. And empathy is fine and I am all for leaders showing empathy. But what's he sorry for? Is he sorry for any of the actions he took? Judging by what he said, no he's not. He's not actually sorry for anything that he's done.

"We did everything we could have done and we will carry on doing everything we can.' Now that's not an admission of doing anything wrong! And yet the obvious conclusion from this horrible milestone is that he did a lot of things wrong and we need to start hearing this government admitting it."
