Dr Hilary slams Brits 'making mockery' of coronavirus as he warns of second peak

Dr Hilary Jones has slammed Brits for 'making a mockery' of coronavirus as he warned of a second peak in the UK.

The health expert was speaking to Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid on Good Morning Britain about people flocking to coasts on the hottest day of the year so far.

Dr Hilary warned that experts were worried about a second peak in the UK (ITV)

After a photo of an overcrowded beach was shown, he said: "That makes a mockery of test and trace right there doesn't it.

"How if you test positive for Covid-19 and a contact tracer asks you 'where have you been over the past few days?' and you say 'I was on Southend-on-Sea or Bournemouth beach amongst those crowds' and they asked 'who do you know, who was next to you?' you wouldn't possibly know.

"And that's the problem isn't it. When people start flouting the social distancing rules, and we go out of lockdown in this kind of way, you can't trace those people."

He added: "Unfortunately, the virus doesn't understand that two metres is the limit of its capability of transportation.

"It doesn't realise you have to be in contact with somebody for 15 minutes. That virus could easily spread from one person to another."

He then added that experts were concerned about a second peak happening in the country.

He continued: "Doctors are very worried about a second peak because of people becoming too complacent and thinking it's all over already. It isn't.

"The virus is just as transmissible and just as prevalent as it's always been."

Good Morning Britain continues weekdays on ITV at 6am.
