Dr Hilary shares checklist people should follow when buying takeaway food in lockdown

Dr Hilary has regularly made appearances on ITV's Good Morning Britain and Lorraine throughout the coronavirus crisis.

The medical professional often responds to viewer queries about the pandemic on the shows and has been praised for being a voice of calm.

During GMB this morning, Dr Hilary addressed questions surrounding takeaway food, a business that is still operating during lockdown.

Dr Hilary Jones was introduced by Susanna Reid during Wednesday's instalment and shared some reassuring news with viewers, reports Birmingham Live.

He said: "Provided you can pick up a takeaway without coming into close contact with somebody else, provided you can still socially distance, picking up food is perfectly OK.

"People have to eat, restaurants need to be kept going.

"So, provided there are no queues, take your food home, take your food out of the packaging, throw the packing away, wash your hands, heat the food up again to over 60 degrees, and that should be pretty risk-free."

Later on Lorraine, Dr Hilary urged people to continue to adhere to the strict rules of lockdown.

Speaking on the show, he reminded people: "This is the worst pandemic we've had for 100 years and it's not going to go away anytime soon."

Lorraine and Good Morning Britain continues on ITV with Susanna presenting alongside Ben Shephard, who has stepped in to replace Piers Morgan this week.
