Dr Hilary says coronavirus vaccine IS safe and discusses side-effects on GMB

Dr Hilary Jones has told viewers of Good Morning Britain that the coronavirus vaccine IS safe.

The TV doctor appeared on the ITV1 show on Thursday and spoke out during a discussion on the Pfizer coronavirus jab as the inoculations began at hospitals across the country.

UK GP surgeries are also set to rollout vaccinations "within days", according to reports.

Dr Hilary said: "You know, we keep things in perspective. I think that from the trials we have already done - 50,000 trials - and very little in the way of side effects, erm, two people out of 9,000.

"That is one in 4,500 people having a reaction from which they fully recover.

"So it is relatively safe. And having the vaccine is protecting against a very nasty respiratory, transmissable illness which can kill people."

In a final message to GMB viewers, Dr Hilary added: "The benefits greatly outweigh the risk."

Dr Hilary has been on hand to provide key guidance and information on the health crisis ever since coronavirus came to British shores.

The medical professional is a regular contributor on GMB and has been in the studio for most days since the outbreak of the pandemic earlier this year, reports BirminghamLive.

He regularly appears opposite presenters Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid, as well as the likes of Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard.

GMB continues to air each weekday on ITV1 from 6am.
