Dr Hilary says Boris Johnson has got it wrong on 'Covid soup' nightclubs

Dr Hilary has said Prime Minister Boris Johnson got it "perfectly wrong" when it comes to nightclubs and issued a warning.

It comes after they opened for the first time in 16 months in England on Monday, July 19, with venues packed with revellers from midnight. You can see the scenes inside England's nightclubs as they opened for the first time here. The Good Morning Britain health expert was chatting to hosts Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard on Tuesday morning's show about an explosive new BBC interview with Dominic Cummings.

Susanna asked the health expert: "Dr Hilary, when you hear that the Prime Minister apparently said he no longer believed all this NHS overwhelmed stuff, as a doctor, as a GP, what do you think?"

"Well, on the face of it it sounds terrible," Dr Hilary responded.

"Is this not Cummings just being the bitter divorcee, stoking up hatred from NHS workers, millions of people, against the Prime Minister? People do adopt a tone of agent provocateur to stimulate discussion with chief medical advisers, he may have been doing that in his jokey way. I have no idea.

"Of course Boris Johnson hasn't got everything right, by any means, and he's getting it perfectly wrong with nightclubs right now. That is an environment which is Covid soup, it is a super spreading event and we shouldn't be waiting until September unfortunately to close them down, as they've done in Netherlands and Israel."
