Dr Hilary's bad news for holidaymakers as 'you can't social distance on a plane'

Dr Hilary Jones has shared some bad news with British holidaymakers as he's given his verdict on air travel in the near future.

Speaking on Lorraine this morning, the telly doctor emphasised he doesn't recommend for anyone to take flights within the next month.

It comes as EasyJet announced it will resume flights on June 15 with all passengers and cabin crew required to wear masks when travelling.

The low-cost airline's planes have been grounded since late March when the novel coronavirus spread across Europe.

Not happy with the news, Dr Hilary said: "EasyJet just announced they might be having some flights to Europe as early as the middle of next month."

Lorraine intervened, adding: "No. Nope. Personally, I would not. Well, if you're sitting there I'm cool with it, I'm with you."

Dr Hilary continued: "No absolutely, you can't social distance or be safe in an airplane cabin. I'm sorry, I know the tourist industry and aviation industry are absolutely decimated by all this but I think, as a doctor, health comes first."

Lorraine agreed with the telly doctor (ITV)

He added: "So I think it's a bit too early. Just be patient people, and be disciplined."

EasyJet said that it would restart domestic flights in Britain and France from 15 June from 22 European airports, before adding other destinations later.

They will serve a number of UK airports including Gatwick, Bristol, Birmingham, Liverpool, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness and Belfast.

The airline said it is "introducing new measures to help ensure safety and wellbeing, including enhanced aircraft cleaning and disinfection and requirement for passengers and crew to wear masks".

Flights would restart with new safety measures including the wearing of masks, enhanced cleaning of planes, and disinfection wipes and hand sanitiser made available to passengers.

There will be no food sold during flights.
