Dr Hilary reveals differences between coronavirus and hayfever as people moan it's worse than ever

Doctor Hilary Jones has outlined the key differences between coronavirus and hayfever as viewers voiced concerns that their hayfever symptoms could be something much worse.

Others Good Morning Britain fans also complained that their hayfever had been worse than ever during lockdown.

The similarity between the annoying but common ailment and COVID-19 is something that has come to the fore over the past few months and after a very warm April and May, more people than ever have been struck down by hayfever but, with over 39,000 lives now claimed by coronavirus in the UK, are undestandably concerned their symptoms could actually be COVID-19.

Health expert Dr Hilary has been pressed on the differences between the two conditions on a number of occasions since the global coronavirus pandemic hit the UK and he once again tried to quell people's fears on Wednesday's GMB.

Taking questions from host Lorraine Kelly, he said the key differences were:

*There should be no actual fever with hayfever

*Any loss of your sense of smell should only be very short-lived with hayfever

*Hayfever symptoms should settle down with anti-histamines and/or nasal spray

As ever, Dr Hilary ended by saying if you are worried that your hayfever symptoms could be something worse, you should ring 101.
