Dr Hilary Jones wears £5k temperature scanner which will become 'new normal' for travel

Dr Hilary Jones was compared to Robotcop as he donned an expensive temperature scanner on Good Morning Britain today.

The pricey helmet kit, which costs £4k - £5.5k, helps detect people's temperatures through a sensor.

It has the potential to detect 200 people's temperatures a minute and could become commonplace in airports, ferries, shopping centres and even offices.

Introducing the TV doctor today, GMB host Ranvir Singh said: "So Dr Hilary has got a new look this morning."

Her co-star Ben Shephard quipped: "It's a little bit early but The Deliveroo guy's here - RoboDoc!"

"This is a helmet that detects people's temperatures just through the little sensor on the front there," Dr Hilary explained. "I can detect 200 people's temperatures in a minute wearing this so this could be of use on boarders, for ferries, for aeroplanes, for offices.

"And looking at you I've got a little screen inside here. When I look at you Ranvir is that you're pretty hot stuff at a temperature of 36.3C."

"That's alright, isn't?" Ranvir asked.

"It's alright," Dr Hilary replied. "Ben, you're about 36.8"

Ben exclaimed: "I'm hotter!"

"So slightly warmer," Dr Hilary agreed.

Ben explained that he was "still coming down from last night" after staying up to watch the football.

"This is quite expensive, this bit of kit," Dr Hilary said. "It's several hundred thousand pounds."

This comes after Dr Hilary issued as Ryanair, easyJet, TUI and Jet2 holiday flight warning yesterday.

He warned: “The HEPA filters on the aircraft do not filter out the virus, the virus is too small for HEPA filters to filter it out.

"People aren’t social distancing - you can see they’re not, they’re taking their masks off to have a drink of coffee or tea, or something else.

"He didn’t mention toilets at all and we know the virus can be transmitted not just through respiratory means but through the oral, faecal route.

"He didn’t mention hands touching aircraft seats and arm rests, many of which are highly contaminated in general.”
