Dr Hilary Jones' top tips for getting to sleep in hot weather as heatwave continues

Dr Hilary has given TV viewers some advice on getting to sleep during the heatwave as Britain continues to bask in sunshine.

With temperatures in the mid-20s for most of us, stuffy rooms and perspiration can leave you unable to nod off.

But Dr Hilary told Lorraine he has a few tricks and tips to help you sleep soundly.

He appeared on Lorraine Kelly's self-titled ITV daytime TV programme this morning.

He said: "So, shed the duvet and just use the cover of the duvet or a bedsheet - that's all!"

"A cold water bottle instead of a hot water bottle, put it in the fridge and fill it with cold water and ice," said Dr Hilary, revealing another tip.

"Do you know - I've never thought of that?" asked Lorraine, before Dr Hilary nodded and ploughed on: "You can also put your pillowcase in the freezer or the fridge and then take it out. You have a nice thing to put your head on, then.

"You can also put cold water on the sheets as well."

He added: "A cool shower before you go to bed is another thing, and some people have a big electric fan and dangle an ice park in front of it.

"Of course, you can also have a regular fan."
