Dr Hilary Jones reveals if men with beards are more at risk of coronavirus

Dr Hilary Jones has revealed if men with beards are more likely to get coronavirus than their fresh face friends.

Just as he does every day for the past few weeks, the health expert was on the Good Morning Britain panel on Friday morning as the show's hashtag #AskDoctorH continued to trend on Twitter.

After rubbishing the theory that getting lots of Vitamin C in you would successfully prevent coronavirus, Dr Hilary was left stunned when a viewer tweeted to ask if he was more at risk of contracting COVID-19 because he had a beard and if he should shave it off to protect himself.

A flummoxed Dr Hilary said: "Is that a serious question? Coronavirus gets onto the skin so having a beard makes no difference. Keep your face and beard clean, maybe give it a little trim."

Six mild symptoms of coronavirus that you shouldn't ignore

On Thursday's GMB, Dr Hilary addressed viewers' concerns that hayfever symptoms were similar to signs of coronavirus by explaining: "Hayfever doesn't give you a fever - it's a complete misnomer. One of the cardinal symptoms to look out for with coronavirus is a fever above 38 degrees and a dry, persistent cough which is new for you.

"So if you've got those two symptoms you need to self-isolate. But hayfever is coming in now, people are getting a bunged up nose and this isn't often a symptom of coronavirus.

"So if you haven't got the two cardinal symptoms of a cough, which is new to you, and fever, you carry on as normal."
