Dr Hilary Jones returns to Good Morning Britain with stark warning over home testing kits for Covid-19

Dr Hilary Jones has returned to Good Morning Britain - and he's issued a stark warning on using home testing kits for Covid-19.

The health expert returned from his summer break to discuss the new warning for at-home testing.

Speaking to Adil Ray and Charlotte Hawkins, Dr Hilary said that the kits are uncomfortable to carry out., and that 'if they don't make your eyes water you're not doing it properly'.

"Anyone who has had a test will know it's pretty unpleasant, when you have a swab taken in the back of the throat and in both nostrils, the test of uncomfortable," he said.

"And that is why self-testing is difficult to do, it's like taking yourself a blood test from yourself, it's very hard to do it properly and if you don't do it properly you get false negatives.

"There is no point people having tests and relying on those tests 100%, and not quarantining if you've been potentially exposed to the virus, because it doesn't rule it out.

"We have to have a system where people quarantine if they have been exposed to the virus, to protect everybody else."

Dr Hilary said that many people fail to do the test correctly because of the pain, which leads to false negative results.

The expert then urged anyone with symptoms to get tested by a professional.

He also said it was time a proper test and trace system was implemented in the country.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am.
