Dr Hilary Jones confirms break from Good Morning Britain week after Piers and Susanna

Dr Hilary Jones will not be on Good Morning Britain from next week, it has been revealed.

The doctor has been on the show daily since the coronavirus pandemic put the UK into lockdown in March,.

From the first cases and deaths, right through to the ever-changing lockdown rules, Dr Hilary has been there for all of it.

Providing key information and advice, and addressing where the handling of Covid-19 may have gone wrong, he's been a key figure on the show for the past four months.

Prior to this, he appeared regularly to discuss the latest health issues, before his role increased amid the pandemic.

But Dr Hilary will not be on the show for a while, and it's not confirmed how long for.

He's revealed he is taking a break from the show, following hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid.

They too have been hosting most of the shows since March, and needed a break.

Speaking on Thursday's show, presenters Adil Ray and Charlotte Hawkins announced the shake-up with him also confirming.

Adil said: "Where would we be without Dr Hilary? He's told me he's off next week. You can't leave next week."

Charlotte added: "What? I don't know who allowed that to happen. It's very well deserved."

Dr Hilary then replied: "I've got to have a little break."

Piers and Susanna Will not return until around September time, enjoying a long holiday.

It's not clear how long Dr Hilary plans to take off, and whether he will return around the same time or before or later.

Today he was discussing the possible Covid-19 vaccine currently being tested, agreeing this could be effective - while he wasn't sure if it was a breakthrough as of yet.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
