Dr Hilary Jones appears on Lorraine to desensitise an embarrassing topic

Dr Hilary Jones appeared on Lorraine this morning to chat about a sensitive topic.

The GP and mum of two Deborah James, who discovered she had stage four bowel cancer in her mid-30s, wanted to get across was to not be embarrassed about talking about their bowel movements.

With Deborah joking that she bets "even Brad Pitt has a poo".

"If only people knew to look at their poo" Dr Hilary said, "The poo taboo, look at your poo."

He added that people were telling him they couldn't get an appointment with their GP but that they "could and they should".

The 'No Butts' campaign has been launched with 'Bowel Babe' Deborah and the Lorraine show.

Supported by Bowel Cancer UK, the campaign aims to help desensitise talking about going to the toilet in order to save lives.

The campaign poster explains the 'BOWEL' acronym and writes: "Not feeling peachy downstairs? No Butts. Early bowel cancer diagnosis saves lives. Contact your doctor if you have:

  • Blood in your poo or from your bottom
  • Obvious change in your bowel habit
  • Weight loss you can't explain
  • Extreme tiredness for no apparent reason
  • Lump and / or pain in your tummy.

"If you notice anything unusual see your doctor or nurse as soon as possible. Early diagnosis could mean a better chance of successful treatment."
