Dr Hilary issues warning as Piers Morgan tucks into Weetabix and beans

If you were on social media yesterday you may have noticed a rather bizarre culinary combination doing the rounds.

Out of nowhere, breakfast brand Weetabix took to Twitter to share a picture of their famous cereal covered in Heinz baked beans.

The post went viral as more than 80,000 people reacted to the controversy.

Keen not to miss out, Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan decided to try the suggestion live on television, leaving ITV viewers at home squirming.

But not before Dr Hilary Jones warned the presenter the combination of the Weetabix cereal and baked beans was "really high in fibre".

Piers said: "Here we go."

"Yes the taste test," said Susanna, before Piers said: "Is this healthier for me than beans on toast?"

"I wanted to warn Susanna that it is pretty high fibre... and I wouldn't want to get into that at this time of the morning," said Dr Hilary.

Piers said: "So if you double up on the beans and the Weetabix you really are in trouble?"

Dr Hilary said: "As Jasper Carrot says, after a few days, you will understand what the 'f' in fibre stands for."

For those that missed it, the tweet from Weetabix read: "Why should bread have all the fun, when there's Weetabix? Serving up @HeinzUKBeanz on bix for breakfast with a twist. #ItHasToBeHeinz #HaveYouHadYourWeetabix."

Lidl, Yorkshire Tea and Nando's were among the many brands who responded to the tweet.

Nandos replied: "You okay hun? DMs are open if you need to talk" while Lidl said: "Babe are u ok? You've hardly touched your Weetabix and beans!"

Good Morning Britain continues weekdays at 6am on ITV.
